8.Multiple Intelligences



Howard Gardner was a psychologist, researcher and professor from the University of Harvard. He was born on 1943, and he was from the United States. It is important to mention him because he made a big contribution in education. He was known to have a research of the cognitive capacity of the brain, and he was famous because of his theory of multiple intelligences. Multiples intelligences are not the same as learning styles. According to Gardner, Multiple intelligences are sets of capacities with different way of being and different general level. This breaks that intelligence is just a unique thing, so it is derived from different elements.  

According to Cambridge dictionary, intelligence is the capacity to acquire new different knowledge. Some other people say that intelligence is the ability to solve any problem. It is the ability to understand and comprehend complex situations in life, so intelligence is important. There is myth that says that if you are good in math, you are intelligent. Another is that if you have good grades, you are intelligent. People who think this are wrong because we can find eight types of intelligences according to Gardner. To know the different intelligences helps to understand students in what they need and how they learn. Here are the multiple intelligence.

Logical –Mathematical

It is the ability to use the number. Students with this intelligence are able to reason, calculate and use patterns with numbers. Those students can be economists, engineers, scientists, mathematicians, and so on.

Linguistic intelligence
It is the ability to use words, writing skills and speech skills. Those students are able to understand real situations by reading and discussion in class, and they think critically. They are good at convincing, entertaining someone. Those students can be poets, writing and a political leader.

Musical intelligence
It is the ability to use the music to express feelings, thoughts. Students can create musical pieces and analyze the messages from the music. It is obvious that those students can be musicians, compositors and so on.

 Naturalistic intelligence 
It refers that some students like to be involved in the nature, and they understand the environment and learn from it. Those students are observers and annalistic. They can be botanists, farmers, ecologists and so forth.

Interpersonal intelligence
It is the ability that some have to understand others such as feelings, problems and so on. They like to help people and solve problems. Those students can be doctors, teachers, psychologists and so on.

Intrapersonal intelligence
It is the ability to understand ourselves. With that intelligence, we know how we are. We learn from our mistakes, and we understand our preferences, beliefs and so on. Also, this intelligence helps us to set objectives and goals in our lives. Those students can be doctors, politicians teachers and so on.

Visual-spatial intelligence
It is the ability to see the world in three dimensions. Those students have the capacity to understand graphics, maps and visual items. Those students can be artists, architects, designers and so on.

Kinesthetic intelligence
This is an intelligence that some students have to take advantages of their bodies. Those students are good at making psychical activities and coordinating. Those students can be athletes, dancers, actors and so on.

The emotional intelligence
This helps to control our emotions; it helps to understand what we want and how we are.
